For whatever reason, many of my students ask me about the make-up I wear…what brand, what colors and where to buy it. As a college professor, I am essentially “on stage” on a regular basis since I am always speaking in front of a group. Consequently, I am particular about the products I purchase and I am always on the “look out” for cosmetics that make my life easier while maintaining effectiveness (I need all the help I can get!). I get my best suggestions from Allure magazine’s annual “Best of Beauty” Awards.
Here are my current faves: Foundation: Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer by Philosophy – This is by far my favorite new product. The foundation and moisturizer combo is a great way to achieve even coverage while hydrating your skin at the same time (with spf 20 protection!). The result is a healthy & “dewy” finish. I also love the scent which is reminiscent of Aveda products. This tinted moisturizer comes in a variety of shades and can be purchased anywhere Philosophy products are sold. I usually have good luck at Sephora and Ulta stores.
Blush: “Super Orgasm” by Nars. Seriously, that is the name of the color. I’m just reporting the facts. This is a ridiculous glittery pinky-orange powder blush. It’s no secret that I prefer to SPARKLE! However, Nars also offers a toned down version simply called “Orgasm”. Loose Powder: A traditional loose powder would ruin the “dewiness” of the foundation. A light dusting of Illuminating Mineral Veil by Bare Minerals will set your foundation while maximizing the “dew” factor.
Lip Color: Buxom Lip Plumpling Gloss by Bare Minerals is amazing in any color! The lip plumping agent tingles as it goes on and the shine is “shimmerific”! Nars also makes a gloss in “Orgasm” to coordinate with the blush. And, Napoleon Perdis (NP Set) makes a lipstick called “Athens” which is my “go-to” lip color. It goes with everything and it makes your teeth look whiter. Best of all, it’s super cheap at Target.
Eye-Color: Nude Beach by Bare Minerals. It’s sparkly and neutral for versatility.
Eye-Liner: I don’t wear it. I think a face looks younger and brighter without it.
Mascara: The blackest black possible…the cheaper the better. Put it on in layers allowing it to dry in between coats on the upper lashes only. While less is usually more, this is not the case for mascara. The more the better, but only on the upper lashes. I don’t wear mascara on my lower lashes. It just looks more youthful in my opinion.
Hope you have SHIMMERIFIC Christmas!! Why shouldn’t you sparkle???
