PRCA - Communication Apprehension
Most people report some level of communication apprehension or anxiety about public speaking, as well as other types of communication. This assignment is designed to increase self-awareness regarding your own level of communication apprehension, including strategies for managing apprehension and anxiety. Complete the following 3-part assignment to generate a baseline score.
PART 1: Self-Assessment - Take the online version of McCroskey’s Personal Report of Communication Apprehension (PRCA-24) to assess your own potential apprehension levels in different areas of communication. Respond to each item thoughtfully and honestly. Upon completion, you will receive an overall score as well as a breakdown of 4 specific types of communication.

PART 2: Reflection - Use the PRCA-24 Interpretation Guide to understand your individual scores. After reviewing your individual scores according to the interpretation guide, describe your experience. Consider the following questions (at least one descriptive and thoughtful paragraph using complete sentences and Proper English):
- Which category of communication did you receive your highest score? Were you surprised? Why or why not? Be specific.
- Which category of communication did you receive your lowest score? Were you surprised? Why or why not? Be specific.
- What insights did you realize as a result of taking this self-assessment?
PART 3: Action Plan for Managing Communication Apprehension

Using what you learned about communication anxiety from each part of this assignment, identify three strategies for managing communication apprehension in specific situations which might be difficult for you. How will you implement each strategy in your life? For example, if you feel anxiety about giving speeches in class, what strategies can you try as you plan and deliver your first speech in class? Be specific and descriptive.
